Letters of Love in the Time of Corona

While we were still in the midst of this  pandemic during 2020, the Goodwill Tribe launched their initiative , ‘Letters of Love in the Time of Corona’, letters were dedicated to unsuspecting recipients by strangers around the world on the request of their family and friends. Not only did these letters served as strength, support and love for those who received them but as learning and healing for those who wrote them. Not to mention that some of these recipients were kind enough to write back to their senders making their year brighter and better. As a volunteer I’m glad to announce that they’re back with this unique initiative with a new objective so without  further ado let’s hear from the Goodwill Tribe themselves….

Hi there,

We truly hope you and your loved ones are well.

When the world first went into lockdown in 2020, and we as humanity were battling an unprecedented experience of social isolation, Letters of Love in the Time of Corona was launched in an attempt to foster human connection.

We invited in letter requests for anyone who was having a tough time coping with the pandemic, anyone really who could do with some extra love and support.

Over six weeks, 825 letters were written by 364 letter writers from 22 different countries, for an unsuspecting 285 recipients. The response was overwhelming and the journey was deeply healing for both the writers and recipients.

When we launched the first round of this project in May 2020, we did not expect that a year later we would still be deeply immersed in the pandemic. While the situation has been heartbreaking, what has really uplifted us is the incredible show of compassion, courage, and solidarity by people all around us.

And so we are bringing back this project, however, with a different focus – to share love and appreciation with the amazing human beings who have gone above and beyond to serve during these trying times. We will be accepting letter requests for volunteers, frontline workers, doctors, nurses, public service officers, friends, family members who have really stepped up to serve. This is our way of appreciating the otherwise invisible acts of compassion, kindness, and courage that they have been committed to!

If you would like to request a letter for someone, or participate as a letter writer, you can sign up through this link.

Take care, and stay safe.

With kindness,
